CES 2009: Xbox will not have Blu-ray

While the stores are full of movies on Blu-ray readable, each day we forget more and more of who his competitor. Since the end of the war between the two formats, rumors that Microsoft was talking with Sony to add a Blu-ray to Xbox 360 flowed like water from a waterfall (yes, very poetic).

Last year, Warner Bros  announced it would not support the format over HD-DVD, which not only ended the format war, but also left Microsoft in the tightrope. Fortunately their console still selling very well in terms of games. However, the console Sony has sold both its games by their ability to play Blu-ray.

Shortly before the start of CES 2009 the rumors about the possibility that Microsoft’s console has a Blu-ray back to life. At the same convention a year ago Microsoft had shown an ambiguous stance on the issue. He had said no, but neither had said yes.

Unlike the position taken last year this time Microsoft gave a resounding no to this request. The reasons? Many. Not only is something we ask of users, but also could use it to develop games as half of the users may have it and half did not. Also would raise costs and that is something that nobody wants.

Robbie Bach, president of the section of Microsoft’s entertainment and devices said the company would continue giving users high-definition movies in digital mode, as is done with the Netflix service since November last year.

Ultimately, if someone had hoped to see Blu-ray movies on your Xbox, forget it. With the amount of sales that has Microsoft among its console and games, no need to enter in a competition is likely to be defeated.
